How to Surf

1. Choose a location. Certain things to look for:
a) water;
b) access to beer;
c) absence of medical waste.
2. Choose fellow surfers. Try to stick with the friendly, non-fighting ones. Easy-going is the way to go. As a matter of fact, this is more important than whether or not they even surf. One friend in our surf crew never gets in the water.
3. Choose a very broad, general timeframe in which you may or may not meet. Flexibility is key!
4. Choose your board. Longboards are your friends, especially on small days! A good mid-length board (6.5 - 8 feet) is just versatile enough to work in most conditions.
5. Choose a wax. After the basecoat, your top wax can be rated for different water temperatures and such, but really, just choose your favorite smell. Pineapple? Coconut? Banana? Unscented? The possibilities are about what you'd expect!
Now open a beer and you're pretty much there! The picture above is what it looks like when we surf our most frequent spot.
